Where to Stay Cool This Summer in Oakland, CA
The weather is always on point in Oakland and chances are you are never going to overheat here. But in the spirit of summer and summer fun we want to help keep you cool.
Lake Temescal is the perfect spot for some fresh water swimming with plenty of other outdoor activities to fill your day. You can have a party at the beach house, go for a hike, do some fishing or chill out and have a picnic. This is definitely one of our favorite summer spots.
Claremont Hotel Club & Spa
41 Tunnel Rd
We're going to start by saying these pools are absolutely gorgeous. Now that we've covered, jump in! You can get to swimming in the 25-meter rec pool, the 25-yard lap pool, take the kids to the children's pool, or hit up the jet-stream whirlpool. We think that should be enough options for one spot. You will need to be a hotel or spa guest or a member for access.
The Oakland Parks and Recreation department operates a number of public pools across the city. Adults can enjoy a dip for as little as $3 and kids under 18 as low as $1! Take your pick and get out there.

Oakland Ice Skating Rink
519 18th St
The rink is operated by San Jose Sharks, so if you're looking to get into hockey or get your kid into hockey this is the place to do it. If that isn't your thing you can always stop by for public skating. Check their site for various times and pricing that work for you!
I Scream, You Scream, You Know Where This is Going
We cant say enough about the historic ice cream parlor. They've been keeping Oakland cool since 1894 and the handcrafted ice cream is something dreams are made of. Try the rocky road. They are kinda famous for it.
Taras Organic Ice Cream
4731 Telegraph Ave
You're coming here because: you like organic food, and to get flavors you won't find anywhere else like Apple Pie and Caramelized Pear.
482 49th St
Curbside is where nostalgia meets artisan gourmet scoops. Although not just scoops, you should definitely try one of their ice cream sandwiches. Vegan options available!
Smitten Ice Cream
5800 College Ave
Nitrogen-infused ice cream, yup, an ice cream science experiment gone incredibly right. You'll have as much fun watching it get made, as you will woofing it down.
Eat and Drink
4401 Piedmont Ave
Cool island vibes await you in this authentic tiki lounge. The icy rum flavored drinks are sure to cool you down and turn you up at the same time. Our faves? Definitely the mai tai it was invented in Oakland.
Jack London Square
Of course, were putting the entire waterfront neighborhood on this list. What better place to stay cool while eating and drinking than the whole square! Our friends at California Canoe & Kayak are happy to help if you need to get in the water.
