For generations, Lake Merritt has been a beautiful gathering place in the heart of Oakland, providing a picture-perfect setting for picnics, barbecues, special events and more.

This historic landmark has been home to magical moments under the necklace of lights, sentimental memories made at the beloved Children’s Fairyland and long walks, energized runs, bike rides, and dreamy gondola rides across its glistening surface. It is where OMCA shares history, culture, creativity, and Friday night fun. And it was the nation's FIRST wildlife refuge!

Over the past few years, a little less attention has been paid to this Oakland treasure. Now, with the love and support of Children’s FairylandOakland Museum of California (OMCA), and the Oakland Public Library – who have joined forces with Visit Oakland, the Oakland Parks & Recreation Foundation, and the Oakland Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce – it’s time to LOVE OUR LAKE

Join us from Memorial Day through Labor Day as we ignite joy and vitality at Lake Merritt this summer.
