Oakland Pride and PrideFest Logos

September 8, 2024

This year, Oakland Pride and Pridefest Oakland have joined forces to create a sponsorship of strength and respect while elevating our unified mission to celebrate and support the cultures and diversity of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer+ (LGBTQ+) community in Oakland and the surrounding Bay Area.

Both of these organizations have cemented their sponsorship to provide unified support for each other, the LGBTQ+ community, and Oakland at-large so that every marginalized voice can be heard.

Oakland Pride helps create a safe space to come home to. A sanctuary where you are protected, can be all you are without judgment and are embraced by your chosen queer family that is strong in numbers and a fierce force fueled by the Power of Pride.

About Oakland Pride

Since 2010, we have been an influential coalition dedicated to educating the greater Bay Area and promoting equality, social justice, civic involvement, and responsibility within Oakland and neighboring communities.

Historically, our events have attracted over 50,000 attendees and have raised $3.3 mm for the Oakland community as we continue to live and buy locally.

Our organization has a shared vision of providing an equitable platform, safe spaces, and events for the entire Oakland community. Our events celebrate Oakland’s rich and diverse queer community, support Oakland’s BIPOC businesses & non-profits, and highlight the resources available to the community through a series of events throughout the year that lead up to Oakland Pride Weekend – a Festival and Parade.

About Pridefest Oakland

Pridefest Oakland was born in 2021 after the faltering of the existent Oakland Pride. Out of love for Oakland’s LGBTQ/Queer Community, a half dozen of Oakland’s BIPOC business & nonprofit leaders have come together to re-envision Oakland’s LGBTQ pride celebration. Join us as we come together to celebrate the diversity and beauty that is held within Oakland.

PrideFest Oakland takes place on 20th Street & Broadway.

What Does Pridefest Oakland Support?

The queer community in Oakland has been starkly underrepresented including a severe underfunding of KEY organizations providing critical services to the Queer LGBTQIA+ community. Oakland Pridefest is seeking to help remedy these issues by supporting:

  • Equity and Visibility: We strive to provide opportunities to highlight local small queer and POC businesses that are traditionally not given opportunities to participate in large-scale events.  We also seek to provide performance spaces to local POC/Queer artists that traditionally perform in underground spaces/face a lack of visibility in alignment with our vision of uplifting queer voices.

  • Fundraising:  In conjunction with our fiscal sponsor, The Oakland LGBT Center, Oakland Pridefest will help distribute funds across local non-profit agencies when possible in an effort to help them continue their mission to provide critical services to the LGBTQIA community that are severely underfunded.  We are committed to the expansion of resources for Queer and POC communities and to efforts centered around health equity.
