Oakland’s picturesque setting and fantastic weather have inspired golf course designers for over a century, so visiting golfers will find plenty to do! The city is home to two eighteen-hole courses, two nine-hole courses, and several other golfing opportunities open to the public. If you’re fortunate enough to meet a member, you could also visit Oakland’s two country clubs with golf courses, Sequoyah Country Club in the east Hills and Claremont Country Club in Upper Rockridge.

Metropolitan Golf Links is located near the San Francisco Bay Oakland International Airport. Its bayside location offers an open and windy course, and the eighteen-hole course’s modern engineering allows it to dry quickly after rain. A driving range, extensive short-game practice area, and affordable fees make Metro a popular choice for visiting and local golfers alike.

Another convenient golfing option is found near Oakland’s popular Montclair Village. The Montclair Golf Course is a 9-hole, par 3 course as well as a driving range with lights for nighttime practice. Located at the top of Dimond Park between the elegant Oakmore and Montclair neighborhoods, the public facility includes a restaurant and bar for post-round refreshments.

The largest of Oakland’s fairways - public and private - is the publicly-owned Lake Chabot Golf Course, abutting a reservoir at the far southeastern end of Oakland’s hills. Boasting a 670-yard eighteenth hole, Chabot’s flagship course averages par 4. A hilly Executive Course includes nine holes, all par 3, and there are driving, putting and chipping ranges for practice. A pro shop and cafe round out the offerings. Expansive greens and panoramic views have made Lake Chabot a favorite with golfers for over a century, so don’t delay reserving a tee time!

Finally, if you’ve come to Oakland with (or without) your clubs but you can’t find the time to get out to one of these courses, there are a few more options. For a quick swing downtown, urbane Snow Park (19th and Harrison), between Lake Merritt and the high-rises of the office district, features a single-hole putting green. Find it close to the intersection of 20th and Harrison Streets. Also downtown, golf simulation club Primetime Golf features two Golfzon Simulators and a PuttView putting green simulator, available for hourly rental not far from the Oakland Convention Center. With so many options, Oakland is truly a great place for a golfer to visit!
