Fredrika Newton learned to march before she could walk. The daughter of activists and a former member of the Black Panther Party, she has devoted her life to justice and community empowerment. As cofounder of the Dr. Huey P. Newton Foundation and Black Panther Party Museum, she leads efforts to preserve and share the true history and legacy of the Party. She successfully renamed a portion of West Oakland’s 9th Street to Dr. Huey P. Newton Way and installed a bust of Dr. Huey P. Newton as Oakland’s first permanent public art to honor the Party. The Black Panther Party Museum showcases historic exhibitions, delivers community programming and events, and conducts tours in Oakland.
