The First 2022 Forum of Mayoral Candidates

Oakland, CA – The Oakland community is invited to participate in A Seat at The Town Table – the first 2022 forum of mayoral candidates, hosted by Visit Oakland and the Jack London Improvement District (JLID). The event will introduce Oakland’s 2022 Mayoral candidates and provide the community the opportunity to ask questions of panel participants. A Seat at The Town Table welcomes people who live and work in the Jack London area, as well as those who visit the neighborhood - to share their concerns and request information that will encourage positive change. The free, open to the public forum will be held on Monday, August 15, 2022 from 5:30pm to 6:30pm at the Regal Jack London Theatre, 100 Washington Street in Oakland, California.

Attendees will hear about each participating candidate’s background, vision and focus of their campaign for Oakland’s highest ranking political position. Candidates will also participate in a Q&A session on how they plan to address and resolve the key issues faced by our Oakland community based on questions submitted by local citizens. The Q&A will be moderated by Taj Tashombe, President of the Board of Directors for the Jack London Improvement District and Vice President of External Affairs for the Oakland Athletics.

“Visit Oakland is honored to partner with the Jack London Improvement District to host the first 2022 Mayoral forum,” states Peter Gamez, President & CEO for Visit Oakland. “Our goal with A Seat at the Town Table is to keep our community engaged, informed and proud to live and work in Oakland. We look forward to hearing directly from the Mayoral candidates on how they plan to make positive changes in and for our community, as well as for the 3.7M visitors we welcome to Oakland each year who annually spend 8.2M supporting local businesses and 7.1K local jobs.”

The community may submit their questions at https://jacklondonoakland.org/news by August 12th for consideration and inclusion in the discussion.

We look forward to hearing from the Mayoral candidates on how they will provide much needed leadership to support thriving and welcoming commercial districts,” states Savlan Hauser, Executive Director for the Jack London Improvement District (JLID). “This is a wonderful opportunity to clearly identify the needs of our residents and businesses who want to elevate Oakland. The Town community understands the importance of keeping the neighborhood safe and welcoming for them - as well as for visitors who directly impact our economic development in Oakland.

The 2022 Oakland Mayoral election will be held November 8, 2022 to elect the new Mayor of Oakland. The term for incumbent Mayor Libby Schaaf, who has served as Mayor since 2015, expires in 2022.
