Welcome to beautiful historic Joaquin Miller Park, one of Oakland’s many natural treasures, steeped in the rich history of the American West. Named in honor of one of America’s most eccentric and colorful writers, Joaquin Miller, shown in the photo on the right, single-handedly planted over 50,000 trees, many of which grace the Park grounds today. He was a man of many talents and achievements – attorney, arborist, stained glass artist, and all around man of letters.
He was also one of America’s earliest conservationists and advocates for public lands. Fast forward to the present; the establishment of this forested 500-acre park is monumental and we extend our gratitude to the late Joaquin Miller and his legacy for his dedication to this wondrous urban environment.
