About
Clio’s is a bookstore in the history of ideas dedicated to the commonwealth of culture and the free play of the intellect. Named for the Greek muse of history, Clio’s was founded in July of 2021 and opened to the public on December 31st, 2023.
We host discussions, reading groups, book clubs, and curated programs throughout the year and across the week, all with the aim of recentering social life around conversation, conviviality, and person-to-person exchanges. To that end, we ask visitors to stay off their screens—both phones and laptops—while they are with us. Clio’s is also available for private rentals and off-hours usage.
Our collection of over 10,000 new and used books is arranged chronologically. We shelve books based on when they were written or what time period they address. The shop thus presents itself as a continuous timeline of human civilization that provides historical context for contemporary contingency.
We sell food and drink in addition to our books; we welcome all ages to join us in sharing, enlarging, and celebrating the life of the mind.
