The Facts
Oakland’s official Lakeshore LGBTQ Cultural District is centered on the Lakeshore Avenue Business District, stretching northeast from Lake Merritt along Lakeshore Avenue. Bordering dense Grand Lake on one side, and the leafy Crocker Highlands and Trestle Glen neighborhoods on the other, Lakeshore Avenue businesses and institutions serve their diverse and urbane customer base with creative - and queer - flair.
The Lakeshore Avenue Business District begins at Lake Park Avenue, which connects to Grand Avenue, across the street from a popular Saturday farmers market. Lakeshore businesses extend for a third of a mile until the street transitions to residential at Mandana Blvd.
The Vibe
Lakeshore Avenue businesses are truly as diverse as Oakland itself - there’s independent boutiques, specialty food shops, plus a destination restaurant and a 24-hour donut shop. Grocery stores and exercise studios keep the area bustling with neighbors, while in-the-know Oaklanders come for Lakeshore's unique restaurants and shops.
The Oakland LGBTQ Community Center (3207 Lakeshore Ave) anchors the LGBTQ Cultural District, providing community services, producing Oakland’s annual Pride Parade and Festival and operating clinics throughout the city. The Lavender Lounge is a welcoming alcohol-free gathering space focused on wellness, connection and community. Farther down the street, Queer Arts Center (3411 Lakeshore Ave) comprises a gallery and event space with the miss ion of providing healing and support for marginalized artists.

Getting to Lakeshore: Directions & Public Transit
Freeway exit: From I-580 E, the Grand Ave/Lakeshore exit; from I-580 W, the Grand Ave. exit. There is a small parking garage next to Trader Joe’s but parking in the core commercial area is limited.
BART stop: The 12th Street, 19th Street, and MacArthur Stations connect to buses or rideshare, 2-3 miles away.
