1. Encuentro

This Vegetarian but mostly vegan restaurant focuses on involving all your senses during your experience there. Flavor, texture, local ingredients, and presentation. All wines are vegan wines. You really can't tell that their vegan chocolate cake is vegan... enough chocolate to have you day dreaming about it at work the next day. Our go-to has to be the stuffed dates, and the kale salad. Get ready to order another plate of them dates... we could eat those all day.

2. Souley Vegan

Souley Vegan

Vegan or not... this place is just damn good! Yeah... just because it's vegan doesn't mean their cuisine is healthy per se, but every dish served in their cute little spot off Broadway is packed with flavor. With the use of meat substitutions like deep-fried seitan, tofu, chicken-fried "steak" paired up with good ol' butter and classic Southern seasonings, their food will keep you smiling and continuously disbelieving that what you are eating has no meat in it. It's pretty awesome... from the small things like the "ranch" and "caesar dressing" to the main entrees like their Chicken and Waffles (yeah... how?!).

Guy Fieri even visited this spot for an Oakland episode of his show Diners Dives and Drive ins.

Visit Oakland Tip: If you are a fan of spicy food, the Jalapeño Poppers are just ridiculous.
