Oakland emerges as a Top Travel Destination for Domestic and International Visitors

Oakland, CA (December 29, 2014) Oakland has emerged as a trending destination among travelers as we head into the new year. The city continues to grow and gain positive attention, topping the country as the Most Diverse City (Priceonomics) and Top 5 Fittest City (Runners World). Most notably, Oakland was recently named #8 on Lonely Planets Best in the US, a list of top ten destinations to visit in 2015, paving the way for more interest in Oakland in the upcoming year. This has been an outstanding year for Oakland. Visit Oakland recently hosted a Sunday Times UK reporter which resulted in a positive article about Oakland being a trendsetting, cultural hotspot in food, art, and shopping, titled, Take Me to Hellafunky Town. Oakland also continues to receive accolades across the country for its diversity, quality of life and as an incubator of innovation. Below represents some additional accolades received in 2014: On the digital front, the newly created Visit Oakland website, visitoakland.org, received the coveted 2014 Silver Magellan Award presented by Travel Weekly. Additionally, Visit Oaklands Adopt-a-Spot Cleanup Initiative secured the 2014 Poppy Award in the Committed to Tourism category presented by Visit California.
