Visit California and Visit Oakland joint press conference to highlight the economic benefits of tourism and celebrate National Travel and Tourism Week
Oakland, Calif. (April 29, 2015) Elected officials, community and tourism leaders will gather for Visit Oakland's 2nd Annual Tourism Breakfast and press conference to release a new economic report showing record-breaking growth for Bay Area and California tourism during 2014. Oakland hotels have outperformed national averages, sparking development opportunities in the community. The event coincides with the U.S. Travel Associations National Travel and Tourism Week, which runs from May 2 to May 10. The event will highlight upcoming opportunities to boost regional tourism, like hosting Super Bowl 50, in addition to the attractions and destinations unique to the Bay Area. Visit California will unveil the economic report, which will provide the visitor spending totals on a statewide, regional and county-level basis as well as the amount of tax revenue and number of jobs supported by travelers. In the Bay Area, travelers spent $26.8 billion and supported 193,600 jobs during 2013, contributing to a $109.6 billion statewide tourism economy. The 2014 figures will surpass these records and show that the Bay Area propelled statewide travel spending growth. Click here to view last years report. Visit Oakland, the tourism bureau for the City of Oakland, will share its recent marketing initiatives that help drive the record-breaking year, and forecast Oakland's hotel and destination development plans.
