Jack London Square is an ideal place to spend the season as it has undergone a tremendous transformation. In addition to the many eclectic and delectable restaurants, it has become very family oriented and a great place for seniors to take their grandchildren or other visitors. The first attraction is the 55 ft. Christmas tree standing in the center of the square, a great site to get you in the holiday spirit! We also recommend plank, a recent addition to the square, has 50,000 sq. ft. of entertainment for the whole family. Outside on the terrace is a large seating area, bar/restaurant, and two bocce ball courts. Inside there is a bowling alley and arcade with many activities for children. There is something for everyone at plank. Further down on the square is a renovated former 1920s waterfront warehouse building with three new restaurants, Forge, Jack s Oyster Bar & Fish House, and Bocanova. These new eateries each have outdoor seating with heaters and umbrellas for unpredictable weather. What makes dining at these restaurants so appealing is that they face the waterfronts marina and they are all delicious! Another attraction not to be missed: Rosenblum Cellars Winery, located at 10 Clay Street. Views of the transbay ferries docking at the nearby Ferry Terminal are fun to see. Accessibility is very important for seniors. Getting to and from Jack London Square could not be easier. There is the B Shuttle circulating continuously along the Broadway corridor. Signs at AC Transit bus stops tell you where to catch the B (and it is free to ride!). There is also a large parking garage (entry on Washington St. across from the movie theater) and many restaurants offer parking validations. Because Jack London Square is very family and senior friendly, it is a great place to visit for the holiday season. I will be there with my grandchildren for sure.
