About
Opening Day Weekend Events
The anniversary season launches with Opening Day Weekend on April 26–27, beginning with a special presentation on Saturday, April 26 at 11:00 a.m. at the Potomac Visitor’s Center: Saving USS Potomac: Her Journey from Barbados to Elvis. Maritime expert and U.S. Army veteran Bill Stewart, one of the few remaining individuals involved in Potomac’s dramatic rescue in 1964, will recount her harrowing voyage through engine failure, hurricanes, and her eventual sale to Elvis Presley. The presentation is free and open to the public.
On Sunday, April 27, the Opening Day on the Bay cruise (10:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m.) will join hundreds of vessels for the annual Blessing of the Fleet. Guests aboard Potomac will enjoy a spectacular maritime parade led by the San Francisco Fire Boats and receive a box lunch during this historic celebration of the sailing season’s start.
