WHY: The Continental Club, one of West Oakland's most iconic landmarks, is bringing back the magic of its storied history with a brand-new weekly event: Blues & R&B Wednesday Nights. This unique event, launched by The Continental Club and the West Coast Blues Society, will pay tribute to the rich musical legacy of West Oakland, featuring live performances by legendary artists from the Bay Area’s blues and R&B scene.

A Historic Venue Restored
Founded in the post-war era, the Continental Club has long been a vital cornerstone of West Oakland's vibrant music scene. Established in the 1940s, it served as a gathering place for both local musicians and national acts, contributing to the cultural and social fabric of the community. Despite facing numerous challenges over the decades, including economic shifts and neighborhood changes, the Continental Club remains the last surviving post-war venue in West Oakland. The club has recently undergone a complete renovation, restoring the original glamour and ambiance that made it a beloved venue for decades. The Continental Club is now open and ready to celebrate its next chapter, welcoming back fans of classic blues, R&B, and soul.

Honoring West Oakland’s Musical Legends The inaugural event on Wednesday, December 4th, will honor two key figures in the local music scene: Terrible Tom, known as the “Mayor of West Oakland,” and Lee Ashford, a legendary promoter and singer whose influence shaped the area’s blues and R&B culture for decades. Their contributions to the West Oakland music community helped establish the neighborhood as a hub for soul and blues music, and this event seeks to carry that legacy forward.

Entertainment by The West Coast Blues Society Caravan of All-Stars
The night will feature a stellar lineup, presented by the West Coast Blues Society, including the legendary Fillmore Slim, Chuck Wallace, Karl Bracy, Michael Skinner, and many others. This incredible group of musicians will bring the soul and spirit of West Oakland’s golden era of blues and R&B back to life.

Join Us for This Historic Inaugural Event This free event marks a momentous occasion for the Continental Club and for the music community of West Oakland. We invite all music lovers to come out, experience the history, and enjoy an unforgettable night of live blues and R&B.
