Fiesta Sin Fronteras: Celebrating Walls for Dance, Not Barriers

Oakland Fiesta Sin Fronteras celebrates using walls for dance and art, not barriers. Join us kicking off #OaklandArtMonth for a free public art performance on May 5th in Uptown Oakland.

The event showcases BANDALOOP dance performances on The Great Wall of Oakland in the parking lot behind Luka's Taproom & Lounge

Event program currently includes:
-- DJs and music starting at 2:30PM
-- BANDALOOP performances at 3pm, 4pm and 5pm (15 minutes performed on the hour). The performances include perspective from the artistic director and short dance performances on The Great Wall of Oakland.
-- DJ JuanLove will be spinning music between dance sets
-- Sean Rueda Class will help you learn the moves
-- Kid's craft table for making Mexican paper flowers
-- Sidewalk chalk available for freestyle and spontaneous art

Please arrive early and bring your own folding chair and/or blanket.

A pioneer in vertical dance performance, BANDALOOP seamlessly weaves dynamic physicality, intricate choreography and the art of climbing to turn the dance floor on its side. Founded by choreographer and artistic director Amelia Rudolph, BANDALOOP’s indoor/outdoor work has been presented in theaters and museums, on skyscrapers, bridges, billboards and historical sites, in atriums and convention halls, in nature on cliffs, and on screen. BANDALOOP honors nature, community and the human spirit by bringing dance to new audiences, activating public and natural spaces, and re-imagining what dance can be.

DJ JuanLove and Sean Rueda Class host TUMBAO - Musica Cubana a weekly dance event at #LukasOakland every Thursday starting at 8pm for instruction (8-9pm beg, 9-10 mixed level) and 10pm - 1am for a dance social.

Attendees will be provided a map of the Uptown area that features a walkable tour of the other walls being used for art. We support using walls for dance, art and films, not barriers.
