Black History Month at Children's Fairyland

Black History Month at Children's Fairyland

About

Oakland History is Black History!

February is Black History month and we’re honoring the Black History born right here in our beloved city of Oakland. At Fairyland, we’re celebrating the ingenuity, contributions, triumphs and culture of Oakland’s African-American community over the last 100+ years.

Come to the Fairyland plaza for a spectacular visual display highlighting important people, time periods and movements in the creating and shaping of Oakland’s rich history. Become familiar with compelling figures and facts you never knew you never knew! From Black Cowboys to Black Panthers and so much more in between, this educational experience is for the entire family and it’s one for the books! Speaking of books, be sure to check out our curated list of recommended reading for this event, brought to you by our book fairy, Angela, Fairyland’s in house librarian.

Rapper/poet Jamey Williams lights up the Emerald City stage with an electrifying show your kiddos will love! Two shows daily for two whole days! Come see Jamey at 1:30 and 2:30 on Saturday, February 4 and Sunday, February 5.

Bay Area storytelling legend Kirk Waller weaves music, spoken word, rhythm and movement into his truly unforgettable performances, making him a Fairyland favorite! Catch him on Saturday, February 11 and Sunday, February 12.

In between cruising the retrospective and catching Kirk and Jamey, get on the good foot at Fairyland and dance to the sweet sounds of soul music playing throughout the park. You will definitely be glad you came. It’s going to be sooo Oakland.
