In the evening, guests can enjoy a special slideshow presentation from 8 PM to 10 PM, offering a deeper insight into Malikia’s work and artistic journey. This event provides a rare opportunity to engage with the cultural legacy of African Ancestral Hair Sculpture.

About Rosa Johnson and "Straw into Gold"

Johnson, niece of Dr. Maya Angelou is celebrated as "The First Lady of Braids," with "Straw into Gold"  her first traveling solo exhibition in over 40 years. This exhibition highlights Johnson's unique stylistic hair designs, which incorporate intricate braiding and elaborate beadwork. Her work has adorned icons such as Stevie Wonder, Nina Simone, and Cicely Tyson, establishing her as a visionary artist in the field of hair sculpture.

"Straw into Gold" showcases over one hundred photographs, three-dimensional objects, and artifacts representing a fraction of Johnson's rich historical archive spanning the 1970s through the early 2000s. This exhibition celebrates the dynamic patterns of our past, present, and future, woven together across the African diaspora.

"It is an honor to present 'Straw into Gold.' This exhibition is a celebration of African traditions and the beauty of hair sculpture, a vital art form that has shaped our cultural identity," commented Johnson.

Traci Bartlow, the owner of B-Love's Guest House, confirmed the importance of the exhibition, "B-Love's Guest House has been a sanctuary for artists and travelers since 2008. This event is an extension of our commitment to celebrating art and community."
