Cava’s artistic spirit and connection to her natural environment can definitely be seen in her top places to check out in Oakland. If cafes, soul food, theater events, redwoods, and flowers are your vibe, definitely check out these spots below!
Brother & Sisters Flower Shop
3265 B Grand Avenue
Cava's go-to for beautiful florals and creative arrangements is Brother & Sisters Flower Shop. You can shop for bouquets and plants on the weekends, book them for events, and even purchase curated gift boxes for your loved ones (or for yourself... heyyyy 💁🏾♀️)!
Food & Drinks
Red Bay Coffee
3136 International Boulevard
Serving "beautiful coffee to beautiful people," Red Bay Coffee is a staple roaster and cafe in Oakland. Nestled in Fruitvale, the company also has locations in Oakland and the San Francisco Ferry Building. Stop by for artisanal coffee, stay for the vibes.
Miss Ollies Oakland
901 Washington Street
Miss Ollies serves delicious Caribbean faire and is located in Swan’s Market in Old Oakland. From salt fish, to creole donuts, to her traditional bush tea, this is a spot you can’t miss! It’s also LGBTQ+ and Women-owned (holla!).
2442 Webster Street
Mua was one of the first restaurants to open in Auto Row in Uptown that caters to the eclectic and artistic community in Oakland (we see why Cava likes this place, for sure). From their beef bone marrow, "no cheese" Mac & Cheese, shiitake mushroom crostini, and amazing list of cocktails, it's definitely worth placing a reservation for dinner.
This popular, plant-based restaurant offers authentic Louisiana Creole flavor! Having first opened in Jack London, there are now locations in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Las Vegas! Eating there, you wouldn't think everything is plant-based, and you can still get vegan options of traditional items such as roasted zucchini etouffee, gator bites, jambalaya, an assortment of salads and brunch!
Joaquin Miller Park
3300 Joaquin Miller Road
Take a hike among the redwoods of Cava's favorite park - Joaquin Miller. With expansive views of the Bay Area, shady trails, picnic areas, and a dog park, you can definitely bring the whole family along to enjoy this slice of green beauty in Oakland!
The Fox Theatre
1807 Telegraph Avenue
Cava is an artist and an educator. She definitely loves to catch shows at the historic Fox Theatre in Uptown. The design and architecture of this 1928 theater is unique, with a domed ceiling, glowing gold deities at each end of the stage, and gorgeous tiles illuminating from every corner. It's a must-see when visiting Oakland, and luckily, the theater has now reopened and has a full line-up of shows to catch!
